Borrego Springs Soroptimist Programs and Initiatives

Soroptimist is a global women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. We are committed to investing in programs that have a sustainable, measurable change for women and girls.

Borrego Springs “S” Club

The “S” Club is a service club for high school students. “S” clubs are a vital part of the high school extracurricular groups and are a great way for high school students to learn about serving others and helping in the community. Soroptimists work closely with “S” Club members to provide mentorship and camaraderie.

Borrego Springs’ S Club was founded in August, 2017, and has over 20 members, some of whom have attended our Dream It, Be It Career Workshop.

Our “S” Club members are passionate and motivated to help others, particularly victims of the Central Mexican Earthquake, which is their first chosen project. We often update what our “S” Club is doing on our Quick Updates Blog!

Dream It, Be It: Career Support For Girls

Dream It, Be It targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. It provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams. Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs works in partnership with girls in small groups to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. The topics covered include: career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success and how to move forward after setbacks or failures.

High School Career Fair (Coming Soon!)

Soroptimist International of Borrego Springs is working on and planning a career fair for high school age girls in the Borrego Springs region. Our Career Fair is planned for Spring, 2018.

Soroptimists STOP Trafficking

Slavery is a harsh reality for millions of people the world over who find themselves trapped in an exploitative and abusive system, bought and sold like objects, and treated with no dignity or human decency.

In 2007, Soroptimist launched a major campaign — Soroptimists STOP Trafficking — aimed at raising awareness about the devastating practice of sex trafficking. Soroptimist club members place sex slavery awareness cards in highly visible locations including police stations, women’s centers, hospitals, legal aid societies, etc. The program has evolved to include a multi-dimensional approach to end sex trafficking including raising awareness, assisting victims, preventing sexual slavery, and advocating for better laws and enforcement.
